Digital coloring with a stylus: tips that help

Coloring with your finger is quick, but a stylus brings back the feeling of holding a real pencil. If your phone or tablet supports an active pen, a few habits make digital coloring much more comfortable.
Know your stylus
Active styluses, such as the S Pen and similar pens, report how hard you press. Simple rubber-tipped pens do not; the screen treats them like a finger. Pressure-sensitive brushes only work with active pens, so if your lines never change thickness, check which kind you have.
Let your palm rest
Many people tense up because they are afraid their hand will draw by accident. Palm rejection solves this: once the app sees the stylus, touches from your palm are ignored. In Boya Bakalım you can switch on "Draw with stylus, scroll with finger" in Settings so the pen draws and your fingers move and zoom the page.
Zoom in for small areas
Detailed drawings can have hundreds of tiny areas. Pinch to zoom until the area you are working on is comfortably large, color it, then zoom out to check the whole picture. Working at a comfortable size is less tiring than trying to be precise on tiny shapes.
Use pressure for shading
Light pressure gives thin, soft strokes; firm pressure gives thick, rich ones. Try shading the edge of a shape with light strokes and filling its middle with firmer ones. The ink and pencil brushes respond especially well to this.
Stay inside the lines when you need to
A brush that stays inside the current area lets you paint loosely without worrying about the edges. It is handy for watercolor effects on detailed patterns: start the stroke inside an area and the paint will not cross its outline.
Take breaks
Hold the pen loosely, rest your wrist on the screen and pause every so often to stretch your fingers. Coloring should feel relaxing, not like a workout.
